Update Location on Latitude Automatically on Android via GPS

Google Latitude Have you ever been out of your home for a roadtrip and were unable to update your location over latitude? Are you tired of updating your exact location manually over latitude? if yes then this article/post is for you.

Unlike Symbian version of latitude which keeps running in the background and updates its location via GPS frequently and automatically, the Android version of latitude, at the time of writing this article, doesn’t support automatic update ofย  location over. However one can use cell-tower/wifi based location, but sometimes it’s not accurate and can show your location thousands of mile away from your actual location. This article/post will provide a trick to post your location over latitude on android automatically.


Consideration Before using this trick! :

  1. This may be a battery drainer, as GPS uses more power.
  2. Posting on latitude require constant and working data/packet connection.
  3. Don’t post/share location if you are privacy concerned.
  4. You have turned off update of location via wireless network.
  5. You have joined latitude, and sharing is enable automatically!

Trick :

First you have to download GPSLogger for your device. To download visit https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mendhak.gpslogger

After installing it, open GPS Logger and follow the settings:

Turn off Prefer Celltowers as shown in figure :

Set the preferred time at which you want to update your location to latitude. Setting time is in seconds only. More the time in second, more the battery will be saved ๐Ÿ™‚

Turn on the GPS for your phone.

Android - Turn GPS on

Start GPS Logger, and start logging.

Just make sure you have joined latitude, and sharing is enable automatically!
